Citation:

Kane, S., S. Shah, AND T. Alfaro. Development of a Rapid Viability-PCR Method for Detection of Francisella tularensis in Water Samples. 2018 EPA International Decontamination R&D Conference, Research Triangle Park,NC, May 08 - 10, 2018.

Impact/Purpose:

Francisella tularensis is a Category One select agent and causes Tularemia infection. It can survive for a long time in water. The RV-PCR method will help rapid detection during an intentional (bioterrorism) or accidental contamination of drinking water system and infrastructure. The method has been developed to meet the needs of the EPA/OW/WSD for the Water Laboratory Alliance (WLA) network of laboratories.
